Zelda Darlene Hartman 92, of Keokuk, passed away Sunday, November 16, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
She was born February 28, 1933 in Williamstown, MO the daughter of Harry and Sari Sturgeon Shoup.
In 1967 Zelda was united in marriage to George R. Hartman. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1983.
Zelda had been employed for twenty-two years at Sheller Globe until her retirement.
She was a longtime member of First Christian Church of Keokuk, finding comfort in her faith and community. Zelda was also active with the Hamilton VFW and the Southside Boat Club.
Zelda had a spirited, outgoing personality and never met a stranger. She loved to socialize, laugh, and make others feel welcome. A lover of games, she delighted in card nights and never passed up the chance to play Bingo—one of her favorite pastimes. Her competitive streak, paired with her sense of humor, made every game more fun.
She is survived by her daughter, Opal Guess (Jim) of Burnhart, MO, two grandsons, Brian and Tony Guess, and a brother Harry Shoup of Hannibal as well as several nieces and nephews. Zelda was especially blessed with cherished friends, Viki Hymes and Russ Hymes, whom she considered a second family.
In addition to her husband, Zelda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, IA with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday with the family meeting with friends at that time.
