Wilma I. Sassenberg, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, IA. She was born on July 23, 1920 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Louis and Rhoda Harrison Schaffer. On June 18, 1940, Wilma was united in marriage to Ed Humphrey. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1965. She married Henry "Hank" Sassenberg on October 15, 1966 in Hamilton, IL. He preceded her in death on January 17, 1993. Wilma graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1938. She had been employed at the Empire Tap in Keokuk for 25 years until her retirement. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk and the Eagles Auxillary. Wilma loved to play bingo and go fishing. She also enjoyed going to Catfish Bend and playing the slots. Wilma is survived by one daughter, Beverly Harter and her husband Ray of Keokuk, IA and one son, Gary Humphrey of Keokuk, IA, four grandchildren, Jeff Harter and his wife Patti of Jacksonville, NC, Lori Ann Seabold and her husband Bruce of Keokuk, IA, Karla Conlee and her husband Danny of Florida and Vicki Lynn Rooney of Montrose, IA, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Lavern Shaffer and one sister, Lois Dean. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. A memorial was established for the Lee County Hospice.
