William "Bill" Lewis Stewart, 82, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, December 27, 2014 in Troy, MO. He was born June 3, 1932 in Alexandria, MO, the son of William L. and Ruth VanVelkenberg Stewart. On October 11, 1958, Bill was united in marriage to Jo Ann Teague Stewart. She preceded him in death on October 5, 2014. Bill Was a Veteran of the United States Army. He fought for two years as a crewman on an M41 155mm Self-Propelled Howitzer during the Korean War. When he returned from the War, Bill was employed for twenty years by several railroad companies. He then worked for Purity Oats, Steel Castings and Hoerner Box. Bill adored spending time with his grandchildren. He had a special affinity for animals and spent much time on his porch watching the birds and feeding and "training" wild squirrels. He is survived by two sons, William Michael Stewart of Keokuk and Jonathan Edward Stewart of Port Arthur, TX, four grandsons, Justin, Jon, Jake and Joe, six great-grandchildren, Alaina, Baylee, Brighton, Savien, Sienna and Kaden, and one sister-in-law, Linda Teague Engebretsen and her husband Don, of Eads, TN. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leonard Stewart. Funeral services we're held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 2nd 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial with military rites was held in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
