Obituary

William M. Bill Murphy, 78, of Williamstown, MO died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, Missouri. He was born January 1, 1936 in Clark County Missouri near Fairmont, the son of Norval and Mary Nichols Murphy. On February 27, 1954 he was united in marriage to Patsy Timmons at the Liberty Baptist Church. For 60 years they shared a love which saw them through the joys and sorrow of life and together they raised their 3 children. Left to cherish Bills memory are his wife, Patsy Murphy of Williamstown, MO, three children, David Murphy and wife Gunilla of Columbia, MO, Carolyn Romine and her husband John of Centralia, MO and Patty Polak and her husband Rich of Williamstown, MO;10 grandchildren, Anna Ballan and husband Joseph, Emma Murphy and her fiance Todd Keicher, Cassie Carrico and husband Shawn, Jeb Romine, Abby Romine, Boone Romine and Angie, Jake Romine, Rich Polak Jr. and his wife Sandra, Michael Polak and Marci Fitzpatrick and her husband Ben; 15 great grandchildren, August Ballan, Taylor, Katie and Charlie Carrico, Zane and Onhali Romine, Keira Romine and Sophia Romine, Casey, Jennie and Joey Polak, Kaitlyn and Richie Polak, Drezden and Milo Fitzpatrick along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Murphy and a sister, Mary Fern Thomson. A farmer for his entire lifetime, Bill needed nothing more to make life worthwhile than to farm his fields. The last several years, he enjoyed vegetable gardening. He and Patty gardened and shared their bounty with everyone. Besides farming, he was also the Lewis County Public Administrator for 18 years, retiring in March of 2011. He served on the Williamstown School Board and was past president of the Canton School board. Bill was the Lewis County Reddish Township Democratic Committee Chairman. He was also the past president of Fairmont Wild Coonhunters Club. Bill had an unwavering and deep faith in God and was a deacon of the Providence Baptist Church in Williamstown. He enjoyed a hand of cards, hunting, bowling and watching westerns on the television. He was also an excellent fast pitch softball pitcher and later managed a young mens fast pitch softball team. Most of all he was a dedicated husband, father, and grandpa and leaves his family with wonderful memories. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014at the Providence Baptist Church in Williamstown, MO. Burial was in the Providence Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Baptist Childrens Home or to the Fairmont Cemetery.
