Obituary

William Glenn Shaffer, 84, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home. He was born on February 27, 1929 in Dallas City, IL, the son of Austin D. and Martha E. Swan Shaffer. On November 26, 1958, Bill was united in marriage to Sara Lee Daggs in Keokuk. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Lori Joan Shaffer and her husband Christopher Goeke of Cape Girardeau, MO and Lee Ann Shaffer-Smith and her husband Matthew Smith of Keokuk, four grandchildren, Sarah Anne Goeke of Lansing, MI, Catharine Jayne Goeke of St. Louis, MO, Austin William Smith and Abigail Susanne Smith both of Keokuk and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Leota E. Shaffer, one brother, Austin D. Shaffer, Jr. and one brother-in-law, Donald G. Pancrazio. Bill was a veteran of the United States Airforce and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He had been employed at Union Electric for thirty four years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk where he served as Clerk of Session and Elder. Bill enjoyed creating art from stained glass, sand-blasted glass and woodworking. He was an avid collector of Haeger Pottery. Bill was a wonderful, devoted husband, dad and grandpa and leaves for his family a lifetime of wonderful memories. A Celebration of his life was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5th, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk with Pastor Randi Henderson officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Great River Area.
