Wesley M. Singh, 71, of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Keokuk, IA died Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, IA. She was born on February 24, 1937 in Raleigh, WV the daughter of Wesley and Henrietta Elizabeth Williams Haywood. She married Darshan Singh in California. As a young woman, Wesley lived in Keokuk, IA where she raised her family. She owned and operated the Ebony Beauty Shop in Keokuk and also worked at Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA. She moved to California where she attended Delta College in Stockton, CA and in 1985 received her AA Degree in Psychology. She worked as a psych tech for the San Joaquin County Mental Health Services. She later moved to Cedar Rapids, IA. She attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids and graduated with honors in 1998 with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. She had been employed at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids, IA. She enjoyed watching movies, reading, and going to the casino. Wesley was a free spirit, a fighter, a survivor and an advocate of higher education for both young and old. She is survived by two daughters, Rochelle Ward of Cedar Rapids, IA and Irma McCane of Kansas City, KS, three sons, Carl Clay of Ft. Madison, Shawn Dade of Lenexa, KS, and Albert Austin, Jr and his fiance' Brittney Haworth of Cedar Rapids, IA, eight grandchildren, Chelsy Ward and her boyfriend, Carlos Smith, William Dade, Jacob Austin, Albert Austin III, Alexis Bell, Alisha Bell, Ashley Rose, and Anthony Austin, two great grandchildren, Quantrel Ward and Nakia Smith, two nephews, Kim Morris of San Bernadino, CA and Kevin Oliver of Cedar Rapids, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Henrietta Oliver. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday October 8 at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
