Wayne T."Hack" Jones, 88, of Warsaw, IL, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA.
He was born on May 18, 1917 on the Singleton Homestead near Adrian, IL, the son of Louis Irvin and Elizabeth Louetta Cravens Jones. On August 13, 1940, Wayne was united in marriage to Anna Myrtle Boeddeker at St. Peter Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo, IL. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2003.
In his younger years, Wayne worked on the farm with his brother and father. In 1948, after moving to Warsaw, IL he was the owner and operator of the Sinclair station at 4th and Main. He also worked part-time at the Bradfields Funeral Home. He worked for many years for Farm Service at the service station at 125 S. 4th St. in Warsaw, as a district maintenance manager, and also drove a fuel truck and ran the anhydrous ammonia plant. After retiring from Farm Service, he was employed at the water treatment plant in Warsaw. Following that employment he owned his own auto repair shop and tow service on Main Street in Warsaw, IL.
He was a volunteer firefighter for the Warsaw Fire Department from 1948 –1973 and had served as Fire Chief for several terms.
Wayne enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing cards at the Fire Station. He had been on a bowling league for several years and had sponsored and coached a team in the men's baseball league. He also enjoyed going for car rides to see the beautiful scenery of the area. Wayne was a loving father and grandfather and always looked forward to family gatherings.
He is survived by five sons, Wayne T. Jones, Jr. and his wife Lena of Little Rock, AR, Michael I. Jones and his wife Marge of Warsaw, IL, Jerry L. Jones and his wife Judy of Linn Creek, MO, Alan R. Jones and his wife Angie of Sutter, IL, and Joseph W. Jones and his wife Cindy of Rock Island, IL, five daughters, Patricia A. Jones of Warsaw, IL, Mary C. Hudson and her husband William of Mediapolis, IA, Carol E. Maddux and her husband Michael of Kingwood, TX, Martha L. Winkler and her husband Rich of Warsaw, IL, Laura J. Dennis and her husband Chuck of Hamilton, IL, sister-in-law, Anna Mary Jones, of Webster, IL, twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Christine Marie, one brother, Richard, one sister, Georgia Haley and one granddaughter, Tiffany Christine Winkler.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 11 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Warsaw, IL with Reverend Michael Menner officiating. Burial was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Warsaw.
A Vigil Service was held at 6:30 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
