Wanda Linette Kay, 48, of Keokuk, IA, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at her home. She was born on March 10, 1958, the daughter of Henry Junior Kay and Donna Wyrick Kay. She married Gary Alan Boatman in July of 1974. They were divorced in 1978. She married Daryl Eric Roberts in October of 1981 and they were divorced in 1985. She married Larry Dean Cook in December of 1994 and they were divorced in 2000. Wanda attended Keokuk High School and Southeastern Community College where she received her LPN degree. She had a hunger for knowledge and was always looking for ways to better herself. She later attended Indian Hills Buena Vista College in Ottumwa, IA and received her Bachelors Degree in Human Services and Psychology. In her teen years she worked as an aide at the Keokuk Convalescence Center with her life-long friend Tracie Jones Severns. She was employed at Steel Castings in Keokuk from 1978 – 1980. She then became a member of the healthcare field and enjoyed helping and taking care of others. She had been employed at several different facilities including Laughlin Pavilion in Kirksville, MO where she worked as a nurse in the Psych Ward. She had also been employed with Nurses Unlimited and had been a Community Support Worker, working with mentally ill and handicapped persons. Currently she was employed at River Hills Village in Keokuk but had been unable to work recently due to her illness. Although not an active member of any church, she was a very spiritual woman. In the past she had been an active member of the Salvation Army Church. Wanda had many hobbies. She was very crafty and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed cooking, especially baking pies, cream puffs and fudge. She was an avid reader and was always in the middle of a book. Wanda loved spending time with her granddaughter, Kayla, who was the light of her life. Their favorite activity together was "cruising", whether it was down Main Street or down by the ducks. She is survived by her mom and pops, Donna and Gerald Price of Keokuk, IA, her biological father, Henry "Junie" Kay, one daughter, Erica Roberts and her companion Paul "Allan" Skinner of Keokuk, IA, one granddaughter, Kayla Martinez, who was "Grammies" shining star, one brother, Danny Kay and his wife Rossi of Keokuk, IA, one sister, Nancy Jones and her husband Bill of Wood River, IL, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, life-long friends, Ann LaFever Hagmeier and her husband Jess of Keokuk, IA and Tracie Jones Severns and her husband Don of Quincy, IL, and special support givers, Aunt Diana Meyers of Keokuk, IA, Janie "Mom" Carlson of Greentop, MO and her neighbors, Milt and Marilyn Walte. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Daryl Roberts, maternal grandparents, Ray V. Wyrick, Emma Viola Shoemaker/Nye, paternal grandparents, Henry William Kay and Flora Young VanDorin. According to Wanda's wishes, her body has been cremated and there will be no visitation or service. A memorial has been established for her granddaughter, Kayla Martinez.
