Virginia Belle Pezley, 93, of Montrose, IA died Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Montrose Health Center. She was born on May 11, 1920 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Hugh Earl and Ve Starr Tweedy. On October 19, 1940, Virginia was united in marriage to John Pezley in Montrose IA. He preceded her in death on November 22, 2006. Virginia graduated from Montrose High School with the Class of 1938. She had been employed for several years in the lunchroom at Central Lee High School. She was a faithful member of the Argyle Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was a member of the United Presbyterian Women. Virginia was a gardener with a green thumb. She grew beautiful flowers and wonderful produce in her vegetable garden and strawberry patch. Virginia had such a great love for chocolate peanut butter cups that she was known as the Chocolate Lady at the Health Center. One of her favorite things to do was watching and feeding the birds. She is survived by four sons, Roger Pezley and his wife Jean of Kahoka, MO, Michael Pezley and his wife Beverly of Donnellson, IA, Ron Pezley and his wife Leslie of Dayton, OH and David Pezley and his wife Michelle of Montrose, one daughter, Jonquil Simmons and her husband Loren of Wapello, IA, fourteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, one brother, David Tweedy and his wife Elsie of Montrose, one sister, Elizabeth Dresser of Montrose, two sisters-in-law, Edith Tweedy of Montrose and Mary Catherine Pezley of Argyle and one brother-in-law, Eston Woodruff of Kansas City, MO. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, five sisters, and one granddaughter, Nicole Simmons. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastor Charles Hammack and Pastor Jared Massey officiating. Burial was in the Argyle Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice or the Montrose Health Center.
