Virginia May LeMatty of Montrose, IA died Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at her home.
She was born on September 1, 1930 in Charleston, IA the daughter of Virgil and Alice Maria Frueh Derr. On September 8, 1945 Virginia was united in marriage to Harry LeMatty in Montrose, IA. He preceded her in death on May 11, 1997.
Virginia was a loving wife and devoted mother, her greatest joy was to care for her family.
She was known as "Bird Lady" because she had raised and sold hundreds of canaries. She really enjoyed playing Bingo and ride her bicycle uptown to the library. Virginia loved her little faithful companion, "Mitsy" her dog.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie (Hank) Howell of Keokuk, Ella May Humes of Farmington, IA, Tina (Lynn) St. Clair of Wyaconda, MO, sons, Tim (Debbie) LeMatty of Montrose, Tom LeMatty of Springfield, OR, Kim (Linda) LeMatty of Columbus Junction, IA, Harley LeMatty, Toby LeMatty and Tracy (Charlotte) LeMatty all of Montrose, IA, and Tony LeMatty of Eugene, OR, 27 grandchildren, 50 great- grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, with three more on the way.
Virginia was also preceded in death by two sons, Rocky LeMatty and Thad LeMatty, two daughters, Harriett LeMatty and Gina LeMatty, two sisters Verna White and Mabel Leeper, and two brothers, Guy and Ernie Derr.
. A private burial was in the Montrose Cemetery.
