Violet E. Spear, 88, of Georgetown, KY, formerly of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Dover Manor in Georgetown, KY. She was born on March 31, 1924 in Arbela, MO, the daughter of L.A. and Lula Adams Brookhart. On June 30, 1941, Violet was united in marriage to Junior Harold Spear in Memphis, MO. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1984. She had been employed as a cook at the Chuckwagon Café in Keokuk for twenty-eight years. Violet had a strong faith that was an active part of her life. When she was twelve years old she joined the Baptist Church in Arbela, MO. She later became a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA. She enjoyed the fellowship and teaching at the weekly Women's Bible Study. She also enjoyed embroidery and crocheting and her specialty was beautifully embroidered pillowcases. She is survived by one son, Greg Spear of Georgetown, KY and close friends, Frances and Frank Sanders of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Spear, one daughter in infancy, Karen Spear, one brother Carl Brookhart and his wife Mary Brookhart, four sisters, Bertha Teitsort, Ruth Fogle, Edna Smith and Elsie Barrett. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, from 1 – 2 pm at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Violet's son, Greg, will be meeting with friends at that time. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Arbela, MO with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Arbela, MO.
