Viola B. Hanley, 95, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Montrose Health Care Center in Montrose, IA. She was born August 20, 1918 in Bensenville, IL, the daughter of Martin and Martha Zars Mittelhauser. On September 3, 1939 she was united in marriage to John William Hanley, Jr. in Forest Park, IL. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1983. She dedicated herself to her family, making their house a home. She enjoyed her life as a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. In her spare time she enjoyed a round of golf, reading a good book and playing a game of cards. Viola had an unwavering and deep faith in God and was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Forest Park, IL and the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk. She also was a member of the Keokuk Country Club and the Keokuk Yacht Club. She is survived by three daughters, Marla Collins of Lombard, IL, Susan Bilenko of Western Springs, IL and Patti Wilson of Keokuk, eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Elmer Mittelhauser and one sister, Amanda Overmeyer. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst, IL. Memorials may be made to the First Lutheran Church.
