Vernon A. Bloyd, 68 of Kahoka passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 16, 2024 at his home.

He was born February 2, 1956 in Keokuk, IA the son of Raymond and Martha Harker Bloyd.

Vernon graduated from Clark County R-1 High School with the class of 1974.

He was known in the community as a radio broadcaster for KOKX radio in Keokuk. Through his work behind the microphone, he brought joy and entertainment to countless listeners on the airwaves.

In his free time, Vernon enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and tending to his vegetable garden. He was a passionate sports enthusiast, particularly for the Mets and the 49ers.

On May 20, 2000 he was united in marriage to Rhonda Slycord in Kahoka. She survives.

He is also survived by his mother, Martha Bloyd of Wayland, a brother Steven Bloyd of Kahoka and his sister, Debra Brown (Tom) of Keokuk along with nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Barbara Walsh and a brother, Kenneth Bloyd.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Peaksville Christain Church in Revere with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating.  Burial will be in the Frazee Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 1 - 2 p.m. at the church with the family meeting with friends at that time.
