Verna Malone, 69, of Keokuk, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on March 15, 1941 in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Lillie Washburn and Dick Cook and Dick Benge. She met her true love, Dick W. Malone in 1980 and they were married on June 11, 1993 in Keokuk, IA. He survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Grace Drummond and her husband Dennis, Tracy L. Wright, Lisa A. Given, Verna L. Nelson and her husband Rod and Tammy Wright and her husband Adam, two sons, Don G. Wright and his wife Nola and Rex A. Wright and his wife Donna, her grandchildren, Sarah Krogmeier and her husband Craig, Donald Wright, Jason Wright, Heather Bradley and her husband RK, Casey Wright, Billy Holt, Don Wright, Cody Wright, Micheal Wright, Terra Stewart and her husband Chuck, Stevie Wright, Brian Wright and his wife Nicole, Mike Pattison and his wife Krystal, Nikkie Floyd and her husband Stanthiphisl , Greg Pattison and his wife Kim, Caleb Pattison, Larissa Pattison, Rex Wright, II, Shawn Myers, Jacob Myers and his wife Sarah, Taylor Stevenson, Matthew Nelson, Jordan Wright and Justin Wright, thirty-four great-grandchildren, one brother, Mike Benge and one sister, Crystal Hartsock. She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Kimberly Wright Cecil and Lorrie Sue Pattison, one son-in-law, Mike Pattison, four brothers, Guy Benge, Ray Benge, Lavern Cook and Don Cook and one great-grandchild, Lourdis Krogmeier. Verna retired from Keokuk Area Hospital in 2004 and was enjoying her retirement doing what she loved, making craft projects, especially making Christmas ornaments and reading. Feeling all the love from near and far from the people she loved and that loved her, she moved on to a better place after a courageous battle with cancer. There will be no service or visitation. Memorials may be made to the family. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is in charge of arrangements.
