Verlie J. Kennedy, 99, of Hamilton, IL died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the Unity Point-Keokuk Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on June 9, 1918 in Sonora Township, rural Nauvoo, IL, the daughter of John and Isabelle Liegerot Bennett. Verlie attended Gibralter Grade School and the Nauvoo High School. In 1938 Verlie was united in marriage to John K. Kennedy. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1983. Together they raised seven children in Keokuk, IA. Verlie began working for Montgomery Ward in 1972 and then for Kirlins Hallmark from 1974 until her retirement in 1986. She enjoyed light hearted people and loved to laugh. She also had a love for music and dance and often performed as a young girl in talent shows and competitions. She is survived by seven children: Gary (Joanne) Kennedy of Banning, CA, Partha Lobberecht of Bridgeton, MO, Danna (Floyd) Cummings of Judsonia, AR, Geoffrey (Lisa) Kennedy of Godfrey, IL, Mark (Elizabeth) Kennedy of Blue Jay, CA, Bennett (Lisa) Kennedy of Ft. Collins, CO and Matthew Kennedy of Hamilton, IL, one sister, Betty Brown of Nauvoo, IL, fourteen grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren, fifteen step-great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, four step-great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, one brother, three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Jim Richardson officiating. A private family burial will be held at the Oak Grove Cemetery rural Hamilton, IL. Memorials may be made the God's Way Christian Church soup kitchen and shelter for the needy. .
