Vera Elizabeth Whitmore, 92, of Montrose, IA, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on October 26, 1915 in Wellman, IA, the daughter of John W. and Grace E. Bassett Henn. On July 20, 1935, Vera was united in marriage to Robert E. Lee Whitmore in Ft. Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1999. She was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Montrose, IA. She had been active in the United Methodist Women (UMW), the Harmony Circle of UMW, the reading program in UMW and was past secretary of the Program Resources of UMW. She had also served as a Sunday School Teacher and the Secretary of attendance records of the church. She was also a member of the Montrose Garden Club. She is survived two sons, James Lee Whitmore and his wife Joan of Keokuk, IA, and Wayne Edward Whitmore of Montrose, IA, one daughter, Mary Esther Whitmore Arpino and her husband Robert of Montrose, IA, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Myrtle Clinesmith of Nixa, MO, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeannette Whitmore, one son, Harold Whitmore, one brother, Lloyd Henn and one daughter-in-law, Elyse Whitmore. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Montrose with Reverend Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Montrose or the Montrose Public Library.
