Vera M. Newlon

View Video Tribute Vera Newlon, 75, of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born August 28, 1936 in Sperry, IA the daughter of Walter and Esther Niehaus Owens. On November 26, 1959 she was united in marriage to Samuel Allen Newlon III in Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on August 9, 1985. Vera was a graduate of the Burlington High School in Burlington, IA. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loved to watch Tiger Woods golf and watch tennis. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis. Her favorite food was tomatoes. She is survived by two daughters, Bonita Davis and her husband Vince of Keokuk, IA and Jadonna Crowell and her husband Bill of Kahoka, MO, two sons, Neil Newlon and his wife Kim of Hamilton, IL and Dale Newlon of Iowa City, IA, two step-sons, Samuel A. Newlon, IV and his wife Teresa of Hamilton, IL and Arthur Newlon of Keokuk, IA, eleven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, one sister, Marlys Pope of Burlington, IA, and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, her step-father, Reinhold "Ray" Johnson, one sister, Joyce Owens, two grandchildren, one step-grandchild , one great- nephew and two great-nieces. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2011 at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk IA with Pastor Jed Linebaugh officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
