View video tribute Venice Grace Fischer Barclay, 87, of Luray, MO died, Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO. She was born October 16, 1918 in Packwood, Iowa, the daughter of James S. and Ammie R. Dorothy Sipe. From childhood she was raised by her Uncle and Aunt, Richard and Grace Sipe. In 1937, Venice was united in marriage to Arvine Decker. To this union, one son was born. On February 12, 1957, she married Ray C. Fischer. Twin sons were born to this union. Her husband, Ray, preceded her in death. On December 17, 1983, she married Andrew Barclay in Luray, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1993. Venice attended Jefferson County schools and graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1936. She attended Parsons College from 1936-1937. In 1940, Venice moved to Clark County, MO. She made her residence in Luray, MO in 1962, and lived the rest of her lifetime there. She was employed as a Department Manager at Montgomery Wards in Keokuk, IA for thirteen years, retiring in 1980. She then managed the Luray School District Hot Lunch Program for five years. She was an active member of the Luray Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Kahoka Post 4342 V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary and served as the Auxiliary chaplain and on many committees. For ten years, she served as the Village of Luray Clerk to the Board of Trustees. She is survived by two sons, Richard Wayne Fischer and his wife Teresa of Memphis, MO and Ronald James Fischer and his wife Deb of Kirksville, MO, four grandchildren, , Nakeya Lynn Booth, Nolea Lane Giering, Nerenda Lea Butler and Pamela Jill Jenkins, six great-grandchildren, Dayton and Ayden Booth, R.J. and Gatlin Giering, Marcus and Matthew Jenkins, one brother, Glen Sipe and his wife Eva Mae of Ottumwa, IA, three close cousins, Ray Davis, Edith Shelley, and Juanita Bisbee, her church family, neighbors and caregivers. She was also preceded in death by a son, Warren Decker, in infancy, two sisters, Mildred Sipe and Mintie Sipe, her parents, her step-father and step-mother, and her uncle & aunt, Richard and Grace Sipe. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 10 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Reverend Charles Hammock and Reverend Beryl Cragg officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Visitation was held after 1 p.m. Thursday with family meeting with friends from 6-8 at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Nolea Lane Giering, Nakeya Lynn Booth, Nerenda Lea Butler, Pamela Jill Jenkins, Judy Cordray and Brenda Smith. Organist was Bonnie Vineyard. Musical selections were "Holes in the Floor of Heaven" and "When I Get Where I'm Going." Memorials were made to the Luray Methodist Church or the Kahoka Post 4342 V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary.
