Obituary

Velva Mae Johnson, 90, of Wayland, MO died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. She was born on March 17, 1917 in Clark County, Missouri the daughter of Robert J. and Ada Boatman LeMaster. Velva was united in marriage to Virgil Allen Johnson on November 3, 1945. He preceded her in death on February 17, 1975. . She was employed at St. Joseph Hospital, Graham Hospital and Keokuk Area Hospital all in Keokuk for 16 years. Velva was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church in Wayland, Missouri. Velva's grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy and she cherished the time she spent with them. She is survived by a daughter, Marlene Schmitt and her husband Carl of Des Moines, IA, one brother, George LeMaster, Sr. of Wayland, MO, six grandchildren, Patsy Irvin, Merle Irvin, Darrell Irvin and Dwayne Johnson all of Des Moines, IA, Renee Whitaker and her husband Andy of Keokuk, IA, and Cory Johnson of Hamilton, IL, four great grandchildren, Katrina Irvin, Gabbie Brewer, Aden Whitaker, and Suzie Whitaker, numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one son, Allen Gene Johnson, one sister, Dora Parks, three brothers, John LeMaster, Alfred LeMaster and Walter LeMaster. Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Bluff Springs Cemetery, rural Canton, MO. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice.
