Velma F. Azinger, 77, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, June 23, 2008, in the comfort of her own home.
She was born on August 26, 1930in Macon, MO, the daughter of Ray and Arminta Kittle Bailey. She was united in marriage to Thomas Azinger on March 7, 1953 in the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. He survives.
Other survivors include their daughter, Janice Lowry and her husband Steve of Moro, IL, five grandsons, Jason, Daniel, Jacob, Jordan, and Justin Lowry all of Moro, IL, two brothers, Raymond Bailey and his wife MarScine of Keokuk, IA and Jim Shearer of Kirksville, MO, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, four brothers, and one grandson John David Lowry.
Velma was a graduate of Keokuk Senior High School.
She had been a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and had worked as a receptionist for the Hubinger Company in Keokuk, IA.
Velma was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. She was a former member of the In His Name Kings Daughters circle, and a member of the bowling association for many years.
She enjoyed crafting, sewing, listening to music, spending time with her friends, camping and fishing. Velma was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and had been devoted in caring for her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA, with Joel Schlatter officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky, IA.
