Obituary

Truman Samuel Howe, 80, of Paxton, IL formerly Urbana, IL and Hamilton, IL died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at his home in Paxton, IL. He was born on June 16, 1933 in Lycan, CO the son of Samuel and Hattie Orton Howe. On July 7, 1956 Truman was united in marriage to Mary Sue Jones in Hamilton, IL. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Rodney T. Howe of Keokuk, and Robert G. "Bob" Howe of Paxton, IL, one daughter, Rhonda Gooden of Gibson City, IL, seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, one brother, Donald M. Howe and his wife Gloria of Bushnell, IL, two sisters, Marie Massie of Hamilton, IL and Beverly Boone and her husband Daniel of Hamilton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Rosalie McGee and Pearl Howe. He attended the Hamilton High School in Hamilton, IL. Truman was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired as a Staff Sergeant following twenty years of service. He then was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in Champaign, IL for almost 22 years retiring from there in 1996. Following that retirement he was employed by the City of Urbana for 8 years and retiring for the last time in 2004. He was a member of the Curtis Road Church of God in Champaign, IL. Truman enjoyed wood working, gardening and fishing. He was an avid Illini football and basketball fan. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Hamilton Assembly of God with Reverend Tom Spain and Reverend Christopher Smithey officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Oakwood Cemetery, Hamilton, IL. Memorials may be made to the family or Carle Hospice, 206A West Anthony Drive, Champaign, IL 61822.
