Obituary

Thomas L. Marlin, 84, of Keokuk, formerly of Burlington died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at River Hills Village in Keokuk. He was born on June 23, 1932 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Carl and Mary Coyle Marlin. He first married Kitty Rhodes and to this union six children were born. He later married Gail Browning. Tom began working at an early age. At age 7 he worked as a pin setter at the Ten Pin Bowling Alley in Keokuk and began delivering milk for Peter's Dairy at age 9. When he turned seventeen he began working at Steel Castings and later worked at Hubingers. He moved to Atlanta, GA in 1961 where he worked at Standard Oil Company. He returned to the tri-state area in 1977 and lived in Burlington, IA where he opened The Bologna Shop. After closing his shop he bought a semi and was an independent owner-operator until he retired at age 65. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Moose Club. While living in Georgia, Tom volunteered as a coach for Little League in Hapeville. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, boating and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tom loved to travel and had traveled extensively throughout the United States in his motor home. He is survived by three sons, Tim Marlin and wife Renee of Warsaw, IL, Dan Marlin of Keokuk and Rick Marlin and wife Susie of Warsaw, one daughter Kathy Dunne and husband Andy of Keokuk, one step-son, Timmy Browning and wife Pam of Georgia, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two sons, Nick Marlin and Pat Marlin, one step-son, Tracey Browning, one granddaughter, Elizabeth Marlin, one great-grandson, Malachi Marlin, one brother, Jim Marlin and two sisters, Mary Miller and Judy Sheffler. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to the Warsaw Little League in Warsaw, IL.
