Thelma Louise Shaffer, 91, of Morrison, IL, formerly of Keokuk, IA died Friday, April 13, 2007 at her daughter's home in Morrison, IL. She was born June 5, 1915 in Argyle, IA the daughter of John and Lula Fickel Hedden. She was united in marriage to Ralph Shaffer on October 25, 1935 in Bloomfield, IA. He went to be with the Lord on July 12, 1984. Thelma grew up in Argyle and Moor, IA and graduated from Keokuk High School. She lived in Keokuk, IA all her married life and was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Keokuk, IA. Thelma later attended the United Presbyterian Church and the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. Thelma's first love was children, especially her grandchildren, she also enjoyed sewing and reading. Her biggest hobby was flowers and gardening, she really had a "green thumb". In 1997 Thelma moved to Morrison, IL to live with her daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law Mark Curtis. She faithfully attended the Albany United Methodist Church and later the Sterling Trinity United Methodist Church with her family. Thelma is survived by her daughter Marilyn Curtis and her husband Mark of Morrison, IL, four grandchildren, Michael Curtis and his wife Angie of Mt. Carroll, IL, Joyce Curtis of Cordova, IL, Deborah Varner and her husband Steve of Keokuk, IA, and Kellie Clark and her husband Brian of Byron, IL, eight great grandchildren, Kristina Karre, Melissa Clark, Julie Varner, Andrew Clark, Michelle Varner, Anna Curtis, Elizabeth Varner and Sarah Curtis. Three sisters, Mildred Kennedy and her husband Lewis of Farmington, IA, Veda Rockefeller of Grovetown, GA, Roberta Ferguson of Keokuk, IA and one brother Robert Hedden of Keokuk, IA, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Harold and Ernest Hedden, one daughter, Joyce and an infant daughter, Jerilee. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA.
