Sylvia G. Rudd, 89, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, IA. She was born February 5, 1920 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Ted and Ester Daw Steele . On May 3, 1946, she was united in marriage to Richard John Rudd, Sr. in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1995. Sylvia spent most of her adult life being a Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church in Keokuk, IA where she was a lifelong member. She was employed at various jobs including Dryden, Swifts, Ammunition plant and the meat market in 13th Street in Keokuk. Sylvia met and made many lifelong friends. Her favorite times were family gatherings for the holidays or church functions and especially working with the children at church. She is survived by a son, Tom Rudd and his wife Trudy of Montrose, IA and two grandchildren, Tim Rudd and his girlfriend Patty of Quincy, IL and Terry Rudd and his girlfriend Heather of Warsaw, IL, and her brother, Russell Steele and his wife Barb of Keokuk, IA. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a son Richard Rudd, Jr. who died in Vietnam, five brothers, Ralph Steele, Ernest Steele, Larry Steele, Thomas Steele and Ted Steele, five sisters, Mary Kathryn Glasscock, Adeline Steele, Dorthy (Alene) Glasscock, Ester Hemmingway and Jeanne Rose. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Keokuk.
