Obituary

Suzanne "Sue" Hoerner Jackson bid adieu and so long to this life on July 7, 2017 at 3 pm at Brookdale Senior Living Community, eager to reunite with family and friends after a long and honorable battle with Alzheimer's – one she didn't lose – the clock just ran out! Sue was born on March 6, 1928 in Tulsa, OK to parents Richard Norris Hoerner and Kathryn Pontius. She survived her younger brother Dick Hoerner, Jr. whom she will be teasing again soon. Sue grew up in Sand Springs, OK and Keokuk, IA with horses and horseback riding in her blood. She was a graduate of Earlham College (a family tradition), competing and later teaching within the Equestrian Program-a program and building that now bears her name and legacy. She was also a graduate of Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Chicago where she was courted and heart won by C. Charles "Charlie" Jackson Jr.-also from Keokuk, IA. Sue and Charlie Jackson raised their family in Wayzata, MN and were early members of the Wayzata Community Church and Wayzata Country Club. For more than 50 years, she dedicated herself to community causes and charities, including the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the Earlham Equestrian Program. If you ever bid on a needlepoint still life our mother probably made it. She is already deeply missed by her surviving children: Sandy Jackson (Steve Young), Chuck Jackson (Beverly), Kathy Parker (Steven) and Bruce Jackson (Marta) and 6 grandchildren, Jacob, Jack, Emily, Blake, Lucas and Mia, sister-in-law Anne Hoerner, niece, Marie Hagberg (Carlton), nephew, Wynn Hoerner (Colleen)-ready to continue the journey ahead. Few will forget the many parties, political and charitable fund-raising events that were had at homes in Wayzata, where so many happy times and friendships were made. A few legendary stories will remain sealed until further notice. By her request there will be no public service with a private interment taking place with family members at the Hoerner Family Mausoleum in Keokuk, IA. Gifts in honor of Suzanne Hoerner Jackson may be directed to the Boys and Girls Club of the Twin Cities, Camp Voyageur, 690 Jackson Street, St. Paul, MN 55130 or the Golay Endowment for the Equestrian program, Earlham College, Institutional Advancement Office, 801 National Road West, Drawer 193, Richmond, IN 47374. God speed to a loving and dedicated mother. You will be forever cherished.
