Steven Wayne Varner

Steven Wayne Varner, 69 of Keokuk, IA passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.

He was born March 31, 1956 in Keokuk, IA the son of Russell N. and Elaine H. Suhr Varner. Steven graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in Keokuk with the class of 1974 and later earned his Associate of Arts degree from Southeastern Community College.

On June 17, 1978, Steven was united in marriage to Deborah Wagner at St. Mary's Church in Keokuk. She survives.

Other survivors include four daughters, Kristina Karre (Mike) of Keokuk, Michelle Henson (Shawn) of Liberty, IL, Julie Kobliska (Tim) of Ely, IA and Elizabeth Fox (Nathon) of Keokuk, and seven grandchildren, Hannah and Evan Karre, Averie and Ellie Henson, Nora Kobliska, Kellen and Lucy Fox. He is also survived by three brothers, Dave Varner (Brenda) of Keokuk, Don Varner (Adriana) of Andover, MN, Tom Varner of O'Fallon, MO and one sister, Carol Glasford (Gary) of Norwalk, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Rebecca Varner.

Steven was a dedicated member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 125, where he worked for 45 years before retiring in 2018.

He was a faithful member of All Saints Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Steven had a passion for woodworking and took great pride in crafting beautiful pieces such as baby cradles, sconces, and potato bins for all of the girls. He also enjoyed spending time with his sons-in-law, cherishing the companionship and the simple moments they shared together.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29 at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk with Father Hai Dinh officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 28 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends at that time.

Memorials may be made to Keokuk Catholic Schools or to All Saints Catholic Church.
