Steven A. Thurman

Steven A. Thurman, 58, of Kahoka, MO died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Unity Point Health Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, IL. He was born August 15, 1959 the son of Jennings Bryan and Dorthy Maxine Rhodes Thurman in Covington, KY. On August 5, 1995 he was united in marriage to Shelly Briggs Land in Kahoka, MO. He is survived by his wife, Shelly Thurman of Kahoka, his mother, Dorthy Thurman of Hamilton, his daughter, Brianna (Marc) Land Wadena of Waterloo, three sons; Steven Wright of Keokuk, Jennings Brian (Nicole) Wright of Keokuk and Michael (Dakota) Land of Keokuk, several grandchildren, several "adopted" children and grandchildren, six sisters; Judy (David) Quimby of Fairfield, Ohio, Teresa Mason of Warsaw, Lois (Joe) Shuman of Keokuk, Eva Thurman (Mike Boley) of Warsaw, Karen (Shawn) Humphry of Keokuk, and Annie (Wade) Kehler of Hamilton, three brothers; Tony Thurman of Ohio, Roger (Sharon) Thurman of Warsaw and Stan Thurman of Peoria, his father in law, James Smith of Kahoka, four aunts; Margie Thurman, Marie Thurman, Nina Rubemeyer and Susie Mortimer and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Jennings Bryan Thurman, mother in law, Sharon Smith, aunts, uncles, special uncle, Kevin Smith, and cousins. Steve had been employed with Mississippi Blending and Steel Castings. He loved the outdoors and spent as much time as he could metal detecting and fishing. He enjoyed going to flea markets, antique stores and thrift shops looking for little trinkets and treasures. Steve tried to make the best of everything and enjoyed the small things life offered. He was a hard worker and willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Most of all he loved his family. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to the family.
