Shirley Joann Carle, 74 of Keokuk died Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on December 13, 1939 in Keokuk the daughter of Harold and Luella Pariot Carle. Shirley had been employed at Hardees in Keokuk and made fresh biscuits from scratch. She later worked at Bridgeway in Keokuk. Through the years, Shirley had attended New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk and Church of the Nazarene in Keokuk. Shirley took great pleasure in volunteering at the Heritage Center in Keokuk. She also loved to create necklaces and bracelets out of beads, go for rides in the car, shop and eat out. Shirley is survived by one sister, Maxine Starr and her husband Jack of Hamilton, IL, two brothers, Ron Carle and his wife Linda of Pekin, IL and Gerald Carle and his wife Denise of Burlington, IA, several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Dianna Pratt, special nephews, Brad Starr, Jackie Starr, Jamie Carle and Jeff Carle, her guardian and care giver, Lisa Rairden, one sister-in-law, Phyllis Carle of Ft. Madison, IA, a special friend, Susan Howell and her dog, Jo-Jo. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Rosaline Carle and Darlene Vradenburg, three brothers, Donald, Harold and Joseph Carle and one nephew, Mike Starr. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 9th 2014 at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Memorials may be made to Shiloh Christian Children's Home.
