Sherry Nan Kirchner, 68 of Keithville, LA, formerly of Keokuk, IA died Monday, July 2, 2012 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. Sherry was born May 13, 1944 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Hubert Harry and Virginia Alice Summers Kirchner. She was married to Jerry Elston on June 8, 1963. They later divorced. She then married Edwin Beard on October 2, 1987 and they later divorced in 2001. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1963. Sherry was a member of the Eastern Star during high school and the Keokuk Saddle Club for many years. She had various jobs through the years, from working in the hospital after high school to being a full time mom. She then was an activity director at Montrose Nursing Home, a pharmacy assistant at Wal-Mart in Keokuk, IA worked in Quincy, IL as a sales associate for a department store, sold advertising for a radio station in Ft. Madison, IA, was a clerk at the Cash Advance in Rent-A Center in Keokuk, IA, a clerk for Advance America in Ft. Madison, IA and most recently she had worked for the blood center in Shreveport, LA delivering blood. She enjoyed reading classical novels, cooking and gardening. She had a passion for a good glass of wine and was very knowledgeable about wine. Sherry loved animals in general but she especially loved horses. Sherry liked to be around people and spend time with her grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Terry Elston and his wife, Simi of Kahoka, MO and Tommy Elston and his wife Stacy of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Tammy McAllister and her husband Steven of Keithville, LA, five grandchildren, Zach and Amy Elston of Kahoka, MO, Luke McAllister of Keithville, LA and Isabelle and Kash Elston of Keokuk, IA, and a lifelong friend, Cassie Malloy of Keokuk, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend John Raab officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice.
