Obituary

Sharon Lynn Smith, 65 of Kahoka, MO died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. She was born August 17, 1950 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Joseph and Doris Eades Starr. She was raised by her grandparents, Pearl and Iva Starr. On April 9, 1976 she was united in marriage to James Lewis Smith. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Terry Briggs, Jr. and his wife Deborah of Wayland, MO and Jason Smith and his wife Kate of Palmyra, MO, one daughter, Shelly Thurman and her husband Steven of Missouri, twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four sisters, Kathy Roberts, Linda Fors, Carol Clemens and Crystal Conley, four brothers, Joseph Starr, Tim Starr, Don Starr and David Starr, three brothers in law, Mike Smith and wife Marcia, Jeff Smith and wife Debra and Dan Smith and wife Judy, five sisters in law, Lora Smith, Carol Ownbey, Betty McCormick and husband Jack, Sandy Zepedaof and Linda Harvey and husband Dick. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brothers in law, Kevin Smith and James McClain, sister in law, Patricia Ludwick and mother in law, Elizabeth Smith. Sharon had been employed by Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA for thirty-two years until her retirement in 2008. She also served as the executive chair for the UAW. She was a member of the Emmanuel Methodist Church in Keokuk. Sharon loved collecting Disney characters, especially Snow White and Jiminy Cricket. She liked going to antique stores and flea markets and enjoyed traveling to Lake of the Ozarks. Sharon was a mother to all. Most of all, she adored her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating and Mike Smith reading the eulogy. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
