Ruth C. "Pert" Sans Soucie, 93 of Keokuk, IA, formerly of Cotter, AR, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, IA. She was born on March 26, 1921 in Graves County, KY, the daughter of David Lee and Clara Bell Shelton Kaler. Pert graduated from the Symsonia High School in Symsonia, KY. In November of 1946, Pert was united in marriage to Gilbert Vernon Sans Soucie in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1998. Pert and Gilbert raised their family in Illinois. After his retirement, they moved to Cotter, AR where they lived for thirty years. She moved to Keokuk in 2008 to be closer to her daughter. Pert loved gardening. While living in Arkansas, she raised orchids in her own greenhouse and was president of the Mountain Home Garden Club for four years. She also belonged to the Art Club. She was an avid fisherman and loved fishing on the White River. Pert enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker and dedicated her life to making a wonderful home for her husband and children. She is survived by two sons, Milt Sans Soucie of Placentia, CA and Vernon (Mary) Sans Souci of Bourbon, MO, two daughters, Susie (Dave) Waddell of Keokuk, IA and Linda Sans Souci of Sullivan, MO, eight grandchildren, Jon, Mike and Michelle Sans Souicie, Lizz Waddell, Timon Sans Soucie, Damon Sans Soucie, Rebecca Sanders and Jennifer Speciale, nine great-grandchildren, three sisters, Betty Warthan of Monrovia, IN, Mary Bell (Palmer) Beckman of Paducah, KY and June (Bobby) Mohler of Hickory KY, two brothers, Jack (Alva) Kaler of Hickory KY and Jerry Don (Bennie) Kaler of Paducah KY and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and three brothers. A Memorial Service will be held at the Spring Creek Church of Christ in Hickory, KY on March 26th 2015 at 11 a.m. with Preacher Robert Charnock officiating. A service to celebrate her life will also be held in Arkansas sometime June. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is assisting the family with arrangements.
