Ruth Irene Eckland, 81, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, May 21 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA.
She was born on January 3, 1925, in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Elmer and Eva Dray. On July 10, 1944, Ruth was united in marriage to Clifford Eckland, Jr. in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2000.
Ruth was a member of the Crossview Fellowship Church in Keokuk, IA. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and greatly enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed writing poetry and going to garage sales with her daughters, granddaughters and nieces. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Weber and her husband, Jerry, Sr. of Keokuk, IA, June Miller and her husband Harry of Colchester, IL one son, Galen Eckland and his wife Jan of Keokuk, IA, eight grandchildren,Ty Eckland and his wife Melissa, Dr. Tara Lukkarinen and her husband Ray, Myron Weber and his wife Tina, Jerry Weber, Marvin Miller and his wife Christal, Don Miller and his wife Jenean, Rhonda and Bill Helenthal, Julie Evans and her husband Ron, twenty-five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Eilene Quirin of Smithton, IL, and Sharon Sangster of Keokuk, IA, two sisters-in-law, Norma Jean Johnson and Ruby Dray both of Keokuk, IA, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Dorothy Sackman, Charlotte Mann, Amy Clark and Dorothy Davis, and two brothers, Myron Dray and George Tender
In honor of Ruth's wishes her body was cremated and a memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24 at the Crossview Fellowship Church in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Terry Lovell, Reverend Harry Miller and Reverend Don Miller officiating. Private family intermentwas held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Brain Tumor Center of Duke University and sent in care of the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA.
