Obituary

Ruth E. Davis, 98, of Keokuk, IA, formerly of Sandusky, IA died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA. She was born on March 18, 1907 in Sandusky, IA, the daughter of Homer Franklin and Elva Bell Trimble Hays. On March 29, 1930, Ruth was united in marriage to Milferd Vane Davis. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1966. She had been a resident of Sandusky for most of her life and was known by all as the Honorary Mayor of Sandusky. She had been a member of the Sandusky United Methodist Church for 79 years and also a member of the Sandusky's Ladies' Aid. Ruth had always been a hard worker and especially enjoyed working outdoors. She enjoyed gardening and going camping. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was a loving mother and grandmother and treasured the times she spent with her family. She is survived by one son, Gary Davis and his wife Mary of Hamilton, IL, one daughter, Joyce Dye and her husband Keith of Keokuk, IA, four grandchildren, Jayne Woods and her husband Norman of Keokuk, IA, Cheryl Morehouse and her husband Wayne of Keokuk, IA, Diana Dresser and her husband Jeff of Montrose, IA, and Shelly Lykins, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one brother, Robert G. Hays of Keokuk, IA. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Max Jay Hays and one sister, Gertrude Klapprott. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend John Abraham and Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky cemetery. A Memorial was established for the Sandusky United Methodist Church or the Sandusky Cemetery.
