View Video Tribute Ruth Conlee, 95, of Montrose, IA died Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born August 6, 1911 in Donnellson, IA the daughter of Harry Dean and Mary Ella Wardlow Dresser. Ruth was united in marriage to Glenn Victor Conlee Sr. on August 24, 1940 in Ft. Madison, IA. He preceded her in death on July 8, 2001. She graduated from the Montrose High School with the class of 1930. She attended the Iowa Wesleyan College, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, the Colorado University in Boulder Colorado, and received her teaching degree from the Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. Ruth taught third grade for nine years before her marriage and then was a substitute teacher in Montrose for 30 years before her retirement in 1961. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose, IA where she served as Sunday School Superintendent. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Tri-state C.B. Club. Ruth was very active in the Red Cross and the Christmas Seals and had served on the Election Board. Ruth was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. She wrote articles for the local newspaper, kept journals and was a history buff with extensive knowledge of the Mormon Cemetery that was on their farm. She is survived by one daughter, Kay Applegate and her husband Robert of Littleton, CO, two sons, Wayne Conlee and his wife Becky of Independence, IA, Victor Conlee, Jr. and his wife Judy of Montrose, IA, grandchildren, Andrew Conlee, Jennifer Helling, Darren Conlee, and Holly Wilke, great-grandchildren, Victor Paul Wilke, Johnathan Keith Wilke and Madison Mae Helling, two sisters, Lois Cline of Argyle, IA and Eleanor Swinderman of Keokuk, IA, and one brother, Carl Dresser and his wife Margaret of Montrose, IA. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Howard Dresser. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Montrose United Methodist Church in Montrose, IA with Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, IA. Memorial may be made to the Montrose United Methodist Church Choir, Montrose, IA.
