Russell "Rusty" A. Schneider, 56, of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on November 26, 1955 in Keokuk, the son of Wayne J. and Rosetta Protsman Schneider. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1976. Rusty had been employed at the Park Ridge Workshop. He loved to fish and his favorite fishing spot was the Mississippi River. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and collecting eagles. Rusty was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan and Dale Ernhardt, Sr. was his favorite driver. He was also a Washington Red Skins fan. Rusty enjoyed the opportunity he had to participate and compete in Special Olympics. He is survived by his loving companion of 27 years, Mary Wood of Keokuk, one step-son, Jesse Hagmeier and his wife Ann of Keokuk, two step-daughters, Michelle Jeffery of Canton, MO and Tina Hagmeier of Keokuk, four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren, his mother, Rosetta Self of Concord, NC, four brothers, Merle Schneider and his wife Kathy of Concord, NC, Bill Schneider and his wife Patty of Nashville, TN, Otto Schneider and his wife Nan of Denver, CO and Raymond Schneider and his wife Linda of Texas, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Charlene Schneider. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Scandinavian Cemetery in rural Argyle with Reverend Matt Hunt officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 am – 10:30 am at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to the family.
