Roy Seabold , Jr. 89, of Keokuk, IA passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his home. He was born on August 22, 1924 in Keokuk, the son of Andrew L. and Katherine "Katie" Blink Seabold. On June 27, 1953 he was united in marriage to Ethel Gladys Miller in Keokuk. She survives. Other survivors include, three children, Kathy S Buckert of Springfield, IL, Nancy A. Caverly of Canton, IL and Gary R. Seabold of Keokuk, two grandchildren, Amanda (Nick) Stoneking and Jesse Caverly both of Canton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marcine M. Seabold in 1999. Roy graduated from Keokuk Senior High School with the Class of 1942. He attended welding classes in Ottumwa, IA and had to hitchhike to get there. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and was stationed on the USS Randolph and the USS Maryland. Roy had been employed at Thomas Truck in Keokuk for close to forty years, until they closed in 1982. He was as a member of the American Legion Post 41 in Keokuk and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. Roy was a talented woodworker. The labor of his hands touched many homes in Keokuk with his carpentry skills. In 1997 Roy received the Honor of being Grand Marshall of the Labor Day parade. He was an avid Chicago Cub Fan and never missed a game. He enjoyed hanging out and sharing stories with his buddies at the American Legion. Funeral services were held at 11 am Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Dr. Don Miller and Reverend Harry Miller officiating. Burial with military rites was held at the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post # 41 in Keokuk.
