Obituary

Roy A. Hays, Jr, 85, of Keokuk, died Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. Roy was born on June 24, 1928 in Canton, MO the son of Roy and Agnes Hays. On June 28, 1952 Roy was united in marriage to Charlotte Kayser Keppel in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2009. Roy was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WW II. He had been employed at Keokuk Steel Casting for thirty years and retired in 1990. Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keokuk. He was a former member of the Eagles and Moose Ledge. Roy enjoyed bowling and playing pool in his younger years and he loved fishing . He is survived by two sons, Albert Keppel III and his wife Kathleen and Johnnie Keppel and his wife Teresa all of Keokuk, four granddaughters, Therese Neff and her husband Jim and Marsha Jairl and her husband Brian all of Keokuk, Amanda Mastin and her husband Wade of Boone, IA and Chastity Kearns and her husband Chris of Montrose, two grandsons, Albert Keppel IV and his wife Michelle of Keokuk and Jeremy Bauswell and his wife Karina of Cedar Rapids, IA, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nephews and great-nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jimmy Hayes and one sister, Shirley. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend Dale Thomas officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Keokuk.
