Rosemary Durham, 88, originally of Fort Madison, died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Montrose Care Center, Montrose, IA. She was born November 21, 1925, in Argyle, IA, the daughter of William Burke and Vivian Linhart Burke. She married Clifford Johnson in 1947. They divorced. On August 17, 1968, she married Bobby Durham in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2013. Rosemary graduated from Argyle High School with the class of 1944. After high school she moved to Los Angeles, CA, and went to work for Boeing Aircraft. She was one of the original" Rosie the Riveter." She owned The Olde English Inn in Fort Madison with the first location on Avenue H, then renovating and moving to the old Atlee building on 14th and Avenue M, opening March 20, 1970. After selling the business in 1972, she and Bobby moved to Colorado. They returned to this area in 2003 living in Hamilton, IL. She was an avid reader, loved nature, feeding the birds, creating and tending to her flowers and yard, was a wonderful cook, especially pies, and dearly loved the many pets she and Bobby owned and rescued over the years. She always found time to help others and did so in many ways. She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Hardy (Bruce) of Wever, IA, and Trudy Baziar (Farhad) of Littleton, CO. Two grandchildren, Jason Austin (Linsay) of Fort Madison, and Christy Thornton of Littleton, CO. One great-grandson, Parker Austin. Three step-sisters, Liz Coovert, of Fort Madison, Margaret Riggle of West Point, and Pat Jones of Keokuk. Besides her husband, Bobby, she was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian, father and step-mother William and Fern; one brother, Edmond Burke; sister, Anne Coovert and one step-brother, John Burke. According to her wishes her body has been cremated and there will be no service. A private family burial will be held in Argyle at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the PAWS Animal Shelter in Fort Madison, IA. Bobby J. Durham, 76, of Hamilton, IL, died Friday, June 28, 2013 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was born in Claude, TX, on November 16, 1936, the son of Lee and Edith Stroud Durham. On August 18, 1968, he married Rosemary Johnson in Carthage, IL. She died November 1, 2014. Bobby belonged to the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Kansas City local #83, retiring after 45 years of service. As a young man he raced for the Amarillo, TX, Hotrod Association winning many awards. His love of racing continued throughout his life. He was known as a hard worker and a very creative person, which was evident in everything from his landscaping, to cooking, to his knack for decorating. He had an innate ability of working with animals, especially the many dogs he and Rosemary owned and rescued over the years. He was also known for being a loving caregiver to this wife after her stroke, even during his own battle with cancer. Bobby is survived by two step-daughters, Pamela Hardy (Bruce) of Wever, IA, and Trudy Baziar (Farhad) of Littleton, CO. Two step-grandchildren, Jason Austin (Linsay) of Fort Madison, and Christy Thornton of Littleton, CO. One step-great grandson, Parker Austin. One brother, Grady Durham of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. According to his wishes his body has been cremated. A private family burial will be at a later date in Argyle, IA.
