Ronald O. Summers, 75 of Keokuk, died Sunday, April 23, 2017.
He was born February 6, 1942 in Keokuk the son of Ray Alonzo and Alice Devine Summers. On June 24, 2000 he was united in marriage to Linda Lierly Squier. She survives.
Others survivors include two sons, Cary Summers of Carthage, IL and Randy Summers (Susan) of Daytona, FL, two step-sons, Tim Squier (Jody) of Ferris, IL and Gary Squier of OK, three grandchildren, Donovan Squier, Brianna Squier and Daniel Squier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Donald Summers and one sister, Joyce Hagmeier.
Ron graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1960.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Berlin Crisis.
Ron had been employed at Ameren Power Plant in Keokuk as a hydro plant technician for fifty-four years.
He was a member of the Jackson Township Fire Association and served as a volunteer fireman. Ron was currently serving as the Clerk of Jackson Township.
Ron was actively involved in Scouts with his sons for many years. He enjoyed photography, gardening, raising tomato plants and beekeeping. He was a jack of all trades and loved tinkering with broken things to figure out how they worked and then repaired them. He was the caretaker of Yellow Banks Cemetery in rural Keokuk. He also raised many champion Chow Chow dogs. Ron was very outgoing and loved people, bringing many smiles to the faces of those he knew and loved.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dawn Butler officiating. Military rites will follow the service at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held after 1 pm Thursday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
