Obituary

Roger Harold Williams, 88, of Keokuk, IA, died on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. Roger was born on April 19, 1925, in Keokuk the son of John and Myrna Stahl Williams. On March 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to June Ruby Edith Batterby in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2002. Roger attended Keokuk Senior High and graduated with the Class of 1943. Roger served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. His unit was awarded a commendation for distinguished service. He was based in Norwich, England during which time he met his future bride, June Ruby Edith Batterby. He was a fine athlete having played football for a year at Iowa Wesleyan College, and for a semi-pro team. He was a standout fast pitch softball player who competed with his teammates in two VFW World Fast Pitch Tournaments. He was also an accomplished bowler and avid golfer who recorded seven holes in one. He worked for the Hubinger Company as a foreman for nearly thirty years and was a member of that company's management club. His wife June and he also enjoyed their membership and Friday evening dining at the Keokuk Yacht Club. Roger was a lifelong member of the Keokuk Elk's Club and the American Legion. He was proud of his children, grand children, and lived to personally meet one of his two great grand children. Survivors include his son, Colin Williams and his wife Nancy of Marion, IA, his daughter, Colette Boltz and her husband Phil of Loveland, CO, three grandchildren, Chad Boltz of Littleton, CO, Matt Boltz and his wife Donna of Arvada, CO, and Chris Williams and his wife Amberly of Ashburn, VA, and two great grand children, Quentin Boltz and Minka Williams. Besides his wife he was also preceded in death by parents, and a brother Don Williams. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the Reverend Larry Snyder officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Iowa Hospice. The family would like to thank the River Hills Village staff for their compassionate care and many kind gestures during their dad's stay with them.
