View Video Tribute Robert Vernon Wilson, 78, of Keokuk, IA, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at his home. He was born on May 9, 1930 in Moline, IL, the son of Vernon S. and Effie Hubbard Wilson. On January 6, 1950, Robert was united in marriage to Donna Hamrick. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Gary Wilson of Ft. Madison, IA, and Steve Wilson and his wife Tammy of Ft. Wayne, IN, two daughters, Roberta Stice and her husband Richard of Keokuk, and Patsy Holmes and her husband John of Omaha, NE, seven grandchildren, Brandon Wilson his wife Shilea, Stacie Allen, Haley Wilson, Todd Wilson, Brian McEntee, Scott McEntee and Kristy Horn, four great-grandchildren, Bryce Wilson, Alyssa Hardy, Austin Hardy and Trenton Hardy, several step-grandchildren, two sisters, Lois Wilson of Ft. Madison, IA and Sharon Tiffer of Alhambra, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marilyn "Micky" Wilson, one brother, Larry Wilson, and one sister-in-law, Theda Wilson. Robert had been employed at Ferro Sil in Keokuk for thirty years and retired in 1995. He was a member of the Calvary Foursquare Church in Keokuk and enjoyed the times of fellowship with other members. He was also a member of the United States Steel Workers Union Local 3311. Robert loved the outdoors and was called "Sunshine Boy" when he was younger. He enjoyed working in his yard, watching sports, listening to gospel music, roller skating, ice skating and driving around town reminiscing about the good old days. Robert reminisced often about the good times he had in High School and being a starting member of the basketball team. He had a wonderful sense of humor and brought many smiles to those around him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Dan Davis and Reverend Bill Hayes officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Foursquare Church or the Family Worship Center in Keokuk.
