Robert Louis Vermazen, 94, of Montrose, IA, died Monday, April 30th at the Montrose Health Center in Montrose, IA. He was born on October 12, 1917 in Montrose, the son of Lewis J. and Jenny Johnson Vermazen. On April 2, 1941, Robert was united in marriage to Ila Mae Kite in Keokuk, IA. She preceded him in death on May 25, 2010. He graduated from Montrose High School with the Class of 1936. Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WW II. Robert had been a farmer in Montrose his entire life. He also had been employed as a Union Carpenter since 1940. He was a member of the Four Square Church in Keokuk. Robert became a Master Gardener after his retirement and enjoyed sharing his flowers with Montrose businesses and the Health Center. He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Eigenfeld and her husband Roger of Madison, WI and Becky McCorkle and her husband Jim of Knoxville, IA, two sons, Dan Vermazen and his wife Shelly of Phoenix, AZ and Jim Vermazen and his wife Vicki of Montrose, sixteen grandchildren, Peter Eigenfeld, Whitney Eigenfeld. Kirsten Eigenfeld, Jacqui Cavagnetto, Lauren Wrightsman, Nathan Eigenfeld, Kurt Vermazen, Kory Vermazen, Klay Vermazen, Kacey Vermazen, Tobi Hoyer, Heidi Braksick, Bob McCorkle, Andy McCorkle, Laura Belville and Leann Svejda, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Mary Wardlow of Rialto, CA and one brother-in-law, Lloyd Stockwell of Rialto, CA. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Herbert Vermazen, one sister, Agnes Stockwell and one grandchild, Kristine Vermazen. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dan Davis officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the Montrose Riverfront, Inc.
