Robert Gerald "Jerry" Hawkins, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, January 8, 2005 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He was born January 16, 1920 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Frank W. and Bessie Bennett Hawkins. Jerry was united in marriage to Doris E. Hagmeier on January 24, 1942 in Palmyra, MO. Jerry had lived in Keokuk, IA until 1986 when he moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA to be closer to his children. He was a finish carpenter by trade. After his retirement in 1982, he worked at the Pit Stop gas station in Mt. Pleasant for 10 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather and treasured the times he spent with his family. He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, one daughter, Bonita Green of Olds, IA, one son, Kenneth Hawkins and his wife Kathy of Salem, IA, one brother, Herbert Hawkins of Keokuk, IA, six grandchildren, Robert Canby and his wife Barb, Rochelle Fulcher and her husband Mark, Jeffery Hawkins and his wife Robin, Richard Canby and his wife Jenn, Clint Hawkins and his wife Laurie, and Angela Gibson and her husband Dan, and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Teddy, two sisters, Lula McLaughlin, and Lenore Hawkins, two sons-in-law, Rodger Canby and Bill Green and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m, Tuesday, January 11 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky cemetery in rural Keokuk, IA. Memorials were established for the American Heart Association and the Henry County Dialysis in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
