Robert G. Conner, 83, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL formerly of Keokuk, IA died November 1, 2012 in Ft. Lauderdale. He was born on November 22, 1928 the son of Glen and Hilma Conner. He graduated from the Keokuk Senior High School in 1945 and received a BA degree from the University of Iowa in 1949. He will be remembered by his friends as owner and operator of the family store, The Golden Rule, in Keokuk. When in Keokuk he was active in the Keokuk Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and in local stage productions. Water played a large part of his life, including boating, fishing and water skiing. His later years were spent in Florida where he lived in Ft. Lauderdale. While in Ft. Lauderdale, he sang in the Methodist Church choir where he acquired many lasting friendships. He spent his last few years with his family Ron and Melissa Short who gave him loving care during his illness. He is survived by his sister Joyce Kelleher and her husband Harry of San Diego, CA. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Rev. Remigio Panlaqui officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
