Robert L. Burgess, 67, passed away at home in his sleep on April 26, 2020. Bob was born in August 1952 to Edith and Howard Burgess in Alexandria, MO. He spent his early life working on the family farms before attending Kirkwood Community College. He then moved to Montrose, IA, where he worked for surrounding city governments and raised his family. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and reader, but he valued his family above all else. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and using every opportunity as a teaching moment. He enjoyed creating new recipes in the kitchen and could be found driving down River Road with his arm hanging out of the window of his Festiva on any beautiful day. Bob possessed incredible integrity, reliability, and an honesty that garnered him immense respect among all who met him. Bob's honor will live on in the lessons he taught and cherished memories of his family. He is survived by a brother, David (Rebecca) Burgess; two daughters, Joy (Joe) Groseclose and Amy Burgess; and four grandchildren, Joseph (Shantel) Groseclose, Megan Groseclose, April Burgess, and Matthew Burgess. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Howard, and one brother, Alan. At his request, there will be no public service held.
