Obituary

Robert "Bob" Lee Thompson, 76, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at his home. He was born on December 18, 1937 in Keokuk, the son of Cecil "Teed" and Corrine Moyer Thompson. On December 23, 1961, Bob was united in marriage to Lynn Wright in Keokuk. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Kristian Thompson and wife Debbie of Rio Rancho, NM, Shawn Thompson of Elizabethtown, KY and Tim Thompson and wife Sharon of Haysville, KS, one daughter, Holly Thompson of Keokuk, eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Becky Payne of Keokuk, one brother, Steve Thompson of Louisburg, KS and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roger, one sister, Karen, one sister-in-law, Phyllis Ketter, his mother-in-law, Marjorie Wright, three nieces, Julie Lander, Angie Elder and Mary Davis and one nephew, Larry Payne. Bob graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was proud to have served his country. Bob was employed at Keokuk Steel Castings for twenty-one years. He worked for KSH, INC in Keokuk for a short time and then relocated to Muscatine, IA where he worked at Starkist in Muscatine and Sivyer Steel in Bettendorf.. He was also the owner and operator of KST Sales & Service, specializing in Indian motorcycles. He was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk and his faith was a great source of strength and encouragement. He was also a member of the America Modelers Association and the Keokuk Kart Klub. Bob was a skilled builder of remote control airplanes and cars. He built a Snoopy's doghouse plane that will always be a favorite of his family. He enjoyed motorcycle and go-cart races and was an avid Nascar and Jeff Gordon fan. Bob was devoted to his family and one of his greatest joys was babysitting his grandchildren. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Testament Christian Church.
