Robert "Bob" Michael Knox, 58, of Keokuk, IA died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the University of Iowa Hospitals after and long and courageous battle with COPD and cancer. He was born to Rita A. Mahoney and Robert Bane Knox in Springfield, Illinois, on February 14, 1954. Bob married Kathy Jones Self on October 6, 2006, after a long courtship. Bob grew up in Keokuk, Iowa, and graduated from Keokuk High School in 1972. He worked with his dad, on building the Superdome in New Orleans, LA in the 1970's, and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico with oil exploration, and at Griffin Wheel in Keokuk, when he retired in 2010 due to his poor health. Bob was known for his great sense of humor, and for his kind heart. He never complained, and he never had a harsh word for another person. In his youth, he was an altar boy, a boy scout, and was active in football, track and wrestling. Bob loved antiques, fishing, the Mississippi River, and his pets. He loved music, saw many bands perform live, and had a record collection of classic rock albums. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy, his mother, Rita Knox, his son, Jason Knox, two step-children, Clara and Christopher Deck, three sisters, Brenda Knox (Matt Crowe,) Laura Knox, and Mary Knox (Don Matthis). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruby Hallinan, in-laws Pam & Richie Barber, and Cindy & Bruce Harris, Diane Johnson Knox and numerous nieces and nephews, who all loved their Uncle Bob. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert B. Knox, his brother, William Joseph Knox , two brothers-in-law, Ike and Joe Jones, and his wife's stepfather, Leo Hallinan. A Celebration of Life will be held for Bob on Saturday, Oct. 27, at noon, at the Melrose United Methodist Church, 1422 Argyle Road, Argyle, IA. A memorial has been established.
