Obituary

Robert "Bob" Eugene Ebeling, 78, of Wyaconda, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on July 25, 1946 in Fairmont, MO, the son of Carl Robert and Betty Joy Rector Ebeling. Bob graduated from Wyaconda High School with the class of 1964. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country from October 29, 1964 to October 13, 1967. His time in the military shaped him into a man of great discipline, integrity, and patriotism.

In 1967, Bob joined his father in the bulldozing business predominantly for famers, Ebeling Construction. Bob loved the work and treated each job as if it were his own.

On January 29, 1971, Bob married the love of his life, Jacqueline Ewers, in Quincy, IL, and together they shared fifty-three wonderful years together. She survives, along with their two sons, Chris Ebeling (Michelle) of Wyaconda and Shane Ebeling (Danielle) of LaPlata. Bob was the proud grandfather of five granddaughters: Madison Ebeling, Aubry Ebeling, Chloe Ebeling Ashtyn Ebeling, and Josie Ebeling. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda Warrick (Larry) of Lavonia, MO, four brothers-in-law: John Ewers (Debbie) of Loraine, IL, Joseph Ewers (Barb) of Cape Girardeau, MO, James Ewers (Mary) of Coal Valley, IL and Jeff Ewers of Quincy, IL, five sisters-in-law: Jeannie Ewers of Quincy, IL, Jereann Abernathy (Jack) of Southport, NC, Judy Christie (Larry) of Lee Summit, MO, Jane Yaukey (Dewayne) of Chambersburg, PA, and Jennifer Mogytych (Tony) of Cara Grande, AZ along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his parents-in-law, Harold and Bonnie Ewers, brother-in-law, Rob Hurley and aunt and uncles, Ed and Doris Anderson, Wade Weber, and Bill Hines and a cousin Rick Hines.

Bob was a true outdoorsman, finding his greatest peace in the wilderness. He was a passionate hunter and fisherman, spending countless hours in the woods and on the water. For Bob, the outdoors wasn't just a place for sport—it was a place for stewardship. He dedicated much of his time to conservation, protecting the soil from erosion and planting trees to help restore balance to the earth, ensuring that future generations would inherit the beauty he cherished so deeply.

Even during the coldest winters, Bob's love for nature never wavered. Ice fishing became a beloved ritual, offering him moments of quiet reflection amidst the frozen lakes. His respect for wildlife extended to his art, as he practiced taxidermy with great care, preserving the beauty of the animals he admired.

In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Bob was also a gifted artist. His chalk and oil paintings were a tribute to the natural world he loved, capturing its essence with striking realism and beauty. His art allowed him to freeze moments of life, preserving the fleeting beauty of nature in every piece he created.

Above all, Bob was a devoted family man. He treasured every moment with his loved ones, particularly his grandchildren. Whether sharing stories of his outdoor adventures or creating new memories, Bob found his greatest joy in the company of his family.
