Rick D. Lorenz, 56, of Keokuk, IA died July 29, 2016 following a boating accident on the Mississippi River.
He was born on November 4, 1959 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Ron and Pauline Gibson Lorenz.
He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1978. He attended Central Pella College and then furthered his education at Southwestern College in Springfield, MO where he received his Master's Degree in Public Relations. While in college, Rick played football and rugby and also wrestled.
After college he worked at the Ford Motor Company in Kansas City as an engineer and also worked as a foreman for a roofing company. After moving back to Keokuk he worked as a foreman at Steel Castings and most recently he was employed as manager of Tri-State Window in Keokuk
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, the Keokuk Yacht Club and the Southside Boat Club.
Rick loved boating and playing Frisbee golf. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Hawkeye football. Rick had a passion for rescuing animals. Sixteen years ago, he rescued a Timber Wolf named ZuZu who became his constant companion and best friend.
He is survived by his mother Pauline Lorenz (Gary Sage) of Keokuk, one sister, Debbie (David) Buschling of rural Canton, MO, nieces and nephews, Ryan and Heather Holsted and Kayla and Zach Alderton, great nieces and nephews, Drew, Gracyn and Tinley Holsted and Keaton Alderton, one uncle, Ted Gibson of Kahoka, MO one aunt Colleen Grisham of Keokuk and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
A memorial service was held at 2 pm Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Keokuk.
