Richard L. Thompson, 88 of Keokuk died Monday, February 6, 2017 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk. He was born July 11, 1928. On January 15, 1950 he was united in marriage to Doris D. Stevens in Warsaw, IL. She preceded him in death on September 22, 2016. Richard graduated from the Montrose High School in Montrose, IA with the Class of 1946. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the U.S.S. George Clymer as a radio man during the Korean Conflict/War. Richard was a printer by trade. In his younger years he had been employed as a pressman by Hamilton Press in Hamilton, IL and Hill Printing Company in Keokuk. He later was the co-owner and operator of Country Treasures Antiques in Summitville, IA with his wife for approximately twenty years. Richard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. He loved antiques. He took great pleasure in attending antique shows with his wife. He is survived by one son, Richard and his wife Janice Thompson of Muscatine, IA, one grandson, Joseph Thompson and his wife Kristy of Indianapolis, IN, one granddaughter, Sara Bugler of Huntersville, NC, six great-grandchildren, Aiden Bugler, Emma Bugler, Jack Bugler and Cameron Bugler all of Huntersville, NC and Drew and Owen Thompson of Indianapolis, IN and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son, Randall, three brothers, Leland, Cecil and his wife Corrine, Virgil and his wife Nancy and two sisters, Wahneta Link and her husband Floyd and Goldie Schevers and her husband Albert. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 6, 2017 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend Jeff Bixby officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk.
